Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland wouldn’t exist without our committed team of volunteer Telephone Crisis Supporters. Being a volunteer is all about being there for someone going through a tough time.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, communities and cultures and are of all ages from 18 and over. No previous training or counselling experience is required – just the desire to help others and to give back to your community.
Our volunteers undertake a comprehensive, highly regarded training program that prepares them for their work with Lifeline. They are trained to listen well and to help in emergency situations. Becoming a volunteer Telephone Crisis Supporter is extremely rewarding – you’ll make a difference in the lives of many people. You’ll also develop your communication skills and learn a great deal about relating to people in need.
Our volunteer Telephone Crisis Supporters attend a regular fortnightly shift of four hours, which amounts to 92 hours a year. There are additional requirements for ongoing supervision and skills development. If you are over 18 and a mature person who can listen well and respond warmly to the concerns of others, we’d love to hear from you.
