Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded service that provides help with daily tasks for people living with a disability. It’s designed for individuals who require 24/7 or regular support to live independently in shared or individual accommodation. Services include assistance with personal care, cooking, cleaning, and community activities, ensuring participants can live as independently as possible.
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) refers to housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. SDA properties are purpose-built to provide accessible features like wider doorways, hoists, and reinforced walls. They cater to participants who need a physical environment that enhances their quality of life and independence.
Eligibility for SIL or SDA funding depends on your NDIS plan. SIL funding is for participants requiring daily support to live independently, while SDA funding is for those with high support needs who require specialist housing. You’ll need to work with your NDIS planner to determine your eligibility and include it in your NDIS plan.
