Mid North Coast Short Term Emergency Placements (MNC STEP)

  • Based across Port Macquarie suburbs – Wauchope and Thrumster areas
  • Deliver residential services to young people in care aged 12 – 17yrs.

About the program

Wesley Dalmar provides residential services to children and young people aged 12 – 17 years in several locations on the MNC and NNSW. We offer quality care that promotes a safe and nurturing environment, assist in the development of life skills, and promotes overall well-being and health.  

 

About the role

Youth Workers are responsible in managing the day-to-day care by delivering high quality person-centred support that holistically addresses the needs of children and young people in care.

The Youth Worker will work closely with the STEP Team Leader, Caseworkers, Wrap Around Services and other stakeholders to provide person-centred care in a home-like environment that supports our clients to heal.

Youth Worker roles are currently needed in the following locations:

  • Wauchope – MNC  
  • Thrumster – MNC  

Duties include one on one care of children and young people that are in residential care environments, managing behaviours and meeting outcomes according to the young person’s case plan, and assisting with their transition to foster care, ITC or independent living arrangements.

You will be a self-directed individual who is passionate about working directly with young people experiencing trauma and is committed to providing the best level care and support possible to our children and young people.

 

Essential criteria

  • Minimum Cert IV in Youth Work or similar field, and/or minimum 12 months experience working with children and young people in a child protection context.
  • Availability to work flexible working hours including shift work, weekends, and paid overnight shifts.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of trauma-informed care.
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment
  • Current unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain.
  • Willingness to consent to the Residential Carer Worker Register.
  • Intermediate literacy skills in Micro-soft word, Excel, Teams, Citrix, Outlook.
  • Strong written and communication skills.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in Out of Home Care, and/or working with challenging and complex behaviours in children and young people aged 12 – 17 years
  • Minimum 12 months experience working with children and young people aged 12 – 17 years
  • Strong ability to work as a part of a team and independently.

Conditions of Employment

This position is identified as a child related role and Prohibited persons under the Child Protection Act 2012 are not eligible to apply. The successful applicant will be required to provide a current Working with Children Check and undertake a National Criminal History Check.

 

Remuneration

Wesley Mission provides regular supervision and support for all staff and opportunities for professional development. Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Social Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS) with generous salary packaging opportunities for permanent employees.
