About the program

Wesley Financial Counselling is a free, face-to-face, confidential counselling for individuals and families experiencing personal financial difficulties and/or crisis.

 

Our program provides comprehensive, specialist counselling support in order to address the immediate distress caused by financial hardship and enable our clients to build longer- term capability to budget and manage their money better and make informed financial decisions in the future.

 

Our service also recognises the importance of place-based approaches and the impact one’s community can have on all levels of wellbeing. We are therefore committed to imbedding our programs within vulnerable and most in need communities. Including those communities significantly impacted by natural disasters.

 

About the role

This is a dynamic and challenging opportunity for a Financial Counsellor to join a vibrant and passionate team.

As a Financial Counsellor, you will be responsible for:

  • providing face to face, phone, and online financial counselling in line with funding requirements
  • working with people experiencing financial hardship
  • ensure every interaction with clients and potential clients is underpinned by the principles of unconditional positive regard
  • ensure support provided is person centered and culturally appropriate s
  • support and empower those who are experiencing financial difficulties to develop short term crisis management solutions and assist to develop long term prevention strategies.
  • provide comprehensive assessment and support to clients to assess for eligibility for Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) Work & Development Orders (WDO)  
  • develop individual and tailored action plan in collaboration with client.
  • provide all clients with information, analysis of options, and referrals to appropriate wrap around support
  • provide advocacy on behalf of clients with creditors

Essential skills/knowledge

  • hold a Diploma of Financial Counselling
  • industry experience as a financial counsellor
  • member of FCAN
  • experience and/or competency in deliverying community education programs
  • experience in telephone & online assessment and counselling skills
  • computer literacy
  • excellent time management, multi-tasking and follow-up skills
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • high level of cultural competency
  • understanding of strength-based practices
  • current NSW driver’s license
  • current working with children’s check

 

 

Desirable criteria

  • accredited Financial Counsellor
  • FCAN recognised peer supervisor
  • experience working with people impacted by gambling
  • experience working with Small Business Clients
  • welfare industry experience
  • sound background and training in general counselling
  • experience in trauma counselling
