What is the Child Care Subsidy?

The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) helps reduce childcare fees for eligible families in Australia.  To be eligible for the subsidy you must:

  • care for a child 13 or younger who’s not attending secondary school, unless you have an exemption
  • use a government-approved child care service
  • be the person paying the child care fees
  • meet residence and immunisation requirements.

When you apply, the Department of Human Services will conduct a means test to determine the amount of subsidy you’re eligible for. You will need to pay full fees until the means test is complete and you receive a Customer Reference Number (CRN), which you’ll need to share with your childcare provider.

For more details, visit the Department of Human Services website.
