An early intervention program dedicated to keeping children and young people safe within their family units.

Who it’s for 

 

The program is designed to help families with children or teenagers (aged 0-17) who are at risk of entering, or escalating within, the statutory child protection system. 

 

Family Preservation is offered across Western Sydney and Nepean Blue Mountains, spanning from Auburn, Parramatta, Blacktown and Baulkham Hills right through to Penrith, Hawkesbury and up to Lithgow.

Outcomes

Wesley Mission Family Preservation provides targeted early intervention services that empower vulnerable families to achieve positive outcomes, including:

Our support services

Wesley Mission Family Preservation focuses on delivering tailored support services to strengthen and empower families. Our practitioners use case management intervention and weekly home visiting over an 18-month period.  

 

Wesley Mission Family Preservation has a selection of approaches to support vulnerable children and their families. All practitioners are trained through a continuous learning model and coaching environment. Our Family Preservation approaches include:

Family Group Conferencing

Providers can buy a Wesley Mission Family Group Conferencing mediator to assist in defining formal care arrangements.

This evidence-based approach supports families through behavioural change. All staff are trained to do so.

SafeCare
SafeCare is delivered in the home usually over an 18-20-week period focusing on health, safety and building child-parent relationships.

Family Star Plus
A scaling model of assessment used to measure family progress across defined domains supporting practitioners to partner with families toward self-determined and purposeful goals.

Cultural support
Support designed for Aboriginal and CALD families, delivered in collaboration with the Community Migrant Resource Centre to ensure culturally appropriate assistance.

How to access support

There are several ways to connect with our Family Preservation program so you can find the support you need. 
Request a referral through a community agency
A local community agency can refer you to our program upon your request. 
Referral via Department of Communities and Justice
A Wesley Family Preservation worker may reach out if our program is recommended to help your family. Referrals can also be made by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.  
Self-referral
Community and self-referrals can be made directly to your local Wesley Family Preservation office.

FAQs

Can I refer a family to this program? 

Yes! Community agencies and individuals can make direct referrals to your local Wesley Family Preservation office.  

If you know of a child or teenager at Risk of Significant Harm (ROSH), you can mention our program when making a child protection report to the Community Services Helpline at 132 111.
