Exploring housing stress: Australia’s leading concern

Wesley Mission's CEO addressing audience about Gambling Harm

Did you know Australia has the highest gambling losses per capita globally?

Our Advocacy and Campaigns team have been working hard fighting for change and researching the connections between gambling, housing stress and homelessness in Australia to build the evidence base for the gambling reforms we know are desperately needed in NSW.

Gambling harm is defined as behaviour that disrupts or damages an individual or their family or interferes with their daily life. There is a close, often two-way relationship between gambling harm and housing insecurity, where gambling can both cause and result from housing stress or homelessness.

To ensure our reform advocacy is effective, we are building a movement of individuals and organisations to pressure decision makers to take real action to minimise gambling harm.

We don’t ask our supporter base for donations – we ask for their time, to write letters, sign petitions, speak up locally or any other action they feel comfortable doing that will help drive cultural change and encourage elected representatives to amend laws and regulations. With your help we can better support vulnerable populations and mitigate the harmful effects of gambling on housing stability.

Together, we can act to prevent and reduce gambling harm.
